Speech on Jawaharlal Nehru – 3
"Good Morning Respected Principal, Respected Teachers and My Dear Friends!
Today, this event has been organized in our school for the celebration of Children’s Day and as a head girl, I am feeling very fortunate that I have got this opportunity of saying a few words on children’s day. Actually, many children do not know the reason behind the celebration of the children’s day. Children’s day is a day when our first prime minister of independent India was born. He loved children a lot and following his love for children, this day is celebrated as children’s day. He is known by many names among people like Pandit Nehru and Chacha Nehru. His love for children is the reason why he is known as Chacha Nehru. He established few of the most successful policies such as- India’s Foreign Policy and education policy. He was the person who delivered the speech called “Tryst of destiny” to the Indian Constituent Assembly in the parliament on the eve of India’s independence.
He was born on November 14, 1889 in Allahabad in British India. His father, Motilal Nehru served twice as the president of Indian National Congress during independence struggle and his mother’s name is Swaroop Rani Nehru. Shri Jawaharlal Nehru was the eldest of three children and two of them were girls. Chacha Nehru described his childhood as protected and monotonous one. He got educated at home by private tutors and under the influence of Ferdinand T. Brooks. He found his interest in science and theosophy. He went to Trinity College, Cambridge in October 1907 and did graduation with natural science. During this time, he also studied political science, economics, history and literature. After completing his degree, he went to London in 1910 for law studies in Inner Temple.
He returned to India in 1912 and got his enrollment in Allahabad High Court as an advocate. Though he had developed his interest in Indian politics, it replaced his involvement in law to politics. He agreed to work for civil rights in congress. He wanted to support civil right movement in South Africa. He collected funds for civil right campaigns led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1913. Following his life as a politician, he was a part of many movements emerged in India during the time of independence such as Home Rule Movement (1916), Non-cooperation movement (1920), etc. He was arrested on charges of anti-governmental activities in 1921, and got released a few months later.
He married Kamala Kaul in 1916. They had a daughter named Indira and who later got married to Feroze Gandhi in 1942. He died on May 27, 1964 and it is believed that he died because of heart attack following Sino-Indian war.
In the end, all I can say that he was one of the most honest, successful and beloved politician and prime minister of all time that our country had.
On this note, I would like to conclude my speech. Thank you all for showing your interest and patience towards my speech.
I wish you all a great day ahead!
